The Carson City Historical Society invites you to celebrate Nevada Day week in true hometown style with a special lecture by Adam Trumble, editor, publisher, and owner of the Nevada Appeal, the state’s oldest continuously published newspaper.
The program, titled “The Voice of Nevada: 160 Years of Headlines, History, and Home,” will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29th, in the Carriage House, 1207 North Carson Street, behind the historic Foreman-Roberts House Museum.
This presentation dives into 160 years of Nevada storytelling—from boomtown gossip and frontier politics to small-town heroes and big breaking news. As the Appeal celebrates its 160th anniversary, Adam will share behind-the-scenes insights into what it takes to keep local journalism alive, the colorful figures who’ve graced the paper’s pages, and how the Appeal has chronicled Carson City’s evolution from dusty capital to vibrant community.
“People still love to see their names in print,” Trumble laughs. “The heart of the Nevada Appeal has always been its people — their triumphs, their quirks, and their stories.”
Light refreshments will be served, and guests are encouraged to arrive early to browse the accompanying exhibit celebrating Nevada’s press and frontier history. Admission is free for Historical Society members and $10 for non-members.
Join us for a spirited afternoon of headlines, history, and hometown pride—because after 160 years, the Nevada Appeal still has plenty of stories left to tell!
