Terri Lynn Nicholas, 58, of Rome, NY passed away peacefully in her home on June 23, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Terri was born on October 4, 1966, in Rome, New York, the beloved daughter of Danny and Connie Beckwith Mulligan. She graduated from the Utica Career Institute, in 1987, earning her cosmetology license and beginning what would become a remarkable 38-year career as a hairdresser. In 2022, she fulfilled a lifelong dream when she was able to open her own salon, Shear Magic, and continue her calling from a place of her own. Her natural talent, warm spirit, and contagious personality helped her build deep, lasting relationships with countless loyal clients and their families. Terri’s chair was more than a place for a haircut—it was a space for connection, laughter, and friendship. Later in life, she brought that same compassion to her work as a caregiver with the DDSO. Above all, Terri was a devoted mother to her three children, who were the pride and joy of her life.
Terri lived life with energy, heart, and a love for the outdoors that shaped so many of her favorite memories. She took on many roles through her life—basketball coach, Girl Scout leader, outdoor enthusiast —but her favorite roles by far were Mom and Grandma. Whether she was camping with friends and family, exploring new destinations, or jumping into spontaneous adventures with her children and grandchildren, Terri never missed a chance to make a memory. She especially cherished her casino outings with her mother, Connie, where laughter, luck, and quality time always went hand in hand. Terri loved travel, new experiences, and sharing joy wherever she went. Her sense of humor, bright spirit, and adventurous soul left an imprint on everyone she met. Terri also held a deep and special bond with her sister, Julie Mulligan Moniot and adored her three nieces—Jaden, Jenna, and Jacey. She looked forward to every visit and getaway with them, treasuring the memories they made together.
Terri was predeceased by her father, Danny. She is survived by her loving mother, Connie (Nick); her sister, Julie; her three daughters, Heather (Karen), Leigh (Brittany), and Rachael (Jerry). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to six grandchildren—Gunner, Sid, Jemma, Jocelyn, Nolan, and Brenton—who brought endless joy and light to her life. And her three nieces, Jaden, Jenna, and Jacey. Her family was her heart, and the bond she shared with each of them will live on through the love and memories they carry.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the many special people who filled her life with love, laughter, and unwavering support. To the Parmalee Girls, whose friendships stood the test of time since elementary school – thank you for a lifetime of friendship. To her cherished friends whom she met along her cosmetology career, Deanna, Michelle, Michele (Princess), and Louis, your enduring presence and shared memories meant the world to her; thank you for always being the crew she could wholly be herself around. To the incredible colleagues she met during her time at DDSO, your strength and support in such a short time left a lasting mark on her heart. To her adventurous friend Becky, thank you for ensuring she never let the grass grow under her feet, and for being by her side through countless life-list adventures. To her beloved friend Karen, who was more like family than a friend—your place in her heart was everlasting. And to every client she ever had the honor of serving, know that she truly cherished each of you and was always so proud to be a part of your lives.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, June 30th, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.
Though her journey here has ended, the light she brought into the world will continue to shine in all who knew and loved her.
