Tammie Jo Ritter, 59, of Rossville, IL, passed away at 7:33 P.M. Friday, September 12, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. She was born on July 5, 1966, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Robert J. and Patricia (Hicks) Moore. She married Thomas E. Ritter on June 27, 1987, in Rossville, IL. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Kelsey Nicole Ritter and Hannah Beth Ritter, both of Rossville, IL; two sisters, Kathy (Greg) Jones of Chillicothe, OH and Merry (Harry) Hostetler of Ft. Meade, FL; one sister-in-law, Nyla Ritter of Rossville, IL; two nieces; and eight nephews.
In addition to her husband, Tammie was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Moore; mother-in-law, Kay Ritter; and nephew, Andrew Jones.
Tammie graduated from Rossville-Alvin High School in 1984; she participated on the basketball and volleyball teams, where she developed lifelong friendships with many teammates. She next attended and graduated from DACC, then started her career as a ward secretary at the VA Hospital in Danville. Later, she transferred to a clerk’s position in the outpatient primary care clinic. At the end of her career, she performed credentialing and privileging new physicians. After retiring from the VA, Tammie worked part-time as a pharmacy tech at Walmart in Danville, where she was a bright spot of cheer for customers there. She had a gift of service and would frequently be found helping others, especially her parents, with meals, accompanying them to appointments, taking them shopping, and being present in their lives. Family game night is an understatement, as it was a staple for any gathering. Tammie also enjoyed her time volunteering at the Vermilion County Animal Shelter; she loved her pets and everyone else’s. She was an avid fan of the Bee Gees and Queen, the Food Network and formerly NASCAR with Tom, when Jeff Gordon was a crowd-thriller. Tammie was a member of the Rossville Church of Christ and so appreciated the relationship she began to develop with some of the ladies in the Bible Study she had joined after retirement.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Rossville Church of Christ, 514 E. Attica St., Rossville, IL. The memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Monday September 29th, at the church with Pastor Kevin Purdy officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Vermilion County Animal Shelter,14775 Catlin Tilton Road, Danville, IL 61834 or Ruby’s Rescue Retreat, 4035 E. 600 North Rd., McLean, IL 61754.
