Stuart Dodson Brandon, Jr., a beloved teacher, gifted tenor, and beacon of inspiration, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, at the age of 82. Born on July 1, 1942, in Lynchburg, Virginia, Stuart lived a life dedicated to education, music, and the quiet beauty of the world around him.

Stuart’s journey was one of dedication and passion. For 35 years, he inspired countless young minds as a teacher in the Memphis School System. His commitment to education was underscored by his master’s degree in education, which he used as a foundation to cultivate a love of learning and curiosity in his students.

In addition to his vocation in education, Stuart was a gifted tenor soloist at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Memphis. For 35 years, his voice filled the cathedral with warmth and grace, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of hearing him sing.

After retirement, Stuart found solace in the mountains of North Carolina. There, he embraced the peace and serenity of the natural world, spending his days with an “irrelevant sense of humor” that brought joy and laughter to those around him. His work as a docent at the Brooks Museum of Art further reflected his lifelong appreciation for art and beauty.

Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart Dodson, Brandon, Sr., and Margaret Christine Deaner. He is survived by his devoted husband, William Lawrence George, along with his cherished stepchildren and step-grandchildren, all of whom were incredibly dear to him.

A private service will be held to honor Stuart’s life and legacy, after which his cremated remains will be laid to rest in Memphis, Tennessee—a city that held a special place in his heart. Stuart Dodson Brandon, Jr. will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to enriching the lives of those around him. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his spirit will live on through the memories he created and the lives he touched. Shule Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
