Steve Pope, 80, of Lindborg, Kansas, was born on September 12th, 1945 in Palo Alto, California and passed away on October 9th, 2025 at his home of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Dorothy Pope, and brothers, Ronnie and Gary. He is survived by his brother, Carl (Diane), his sister, Marcia Weller (Matthew), a lifetime friend and neighbor, Bob Reese, many other close friends, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Steve lived in various states and had multiple vocations. Growing up, he explored his German heritage and learned some German from family. Family remembers his candling eggs with his Mother and putting on plays with his sisters and cousins. He joined the Air Force and was an RN and Sergeant stationed in Taiwan where he also learned some Chinese. He worked as a Cosmetologist in San Angelo, Texas as well as being a host for the Good Morning San Angelo television program. After moving to the Lindsborg area, he worked at various agencies in Salina, most notably CKF, ISAT, Brown-Mackie, and Access Television. Steve loved to teach and entertained his audience while doing so.
He also loved to cook and shared his culinary skills with family and friends, catered events, and taught cooking classes as a Heritage Chicken Chef in various states. When at home, he loved to garden and share his crops, to raise exotic breeds of chicken, and to love and spoil his many feline companions. He was interested in religion and philosophy, raised multiple questions to discuss, joined the Catholic church at age 50, and continued to discuss theology.
A Memorial Mass will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2025 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Lindsborg. Steve will be inurned at Poheta Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Crick-Christians Funeral Home in Lindsborg for his final expenses would be appreciated.
