Stephen K. Lundell, 63, of Palatine, IL. Born August 16, 1962, in Chicago, IL to the late Kenneth and Corinne Lundell, peacefully passed away on October 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
Beloved husband of Colleen, nee Kett. Loving father of Kyle Lundell and Jessica (Chad) Kreinus. Proud Papa of Brody Kreinus. Dear brother of Craig (Traci) Lundell, Michelle Lundell and brother-in-law of Mike (Nancy) Kett, Cathy (Mark) McCullagh and Julie (Gary) Szwiec. Fun Uncle and Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Steve, a man of deep faith, unwavering integrity, and boundless love for his family, passed away after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. He faced his illness with remarkable grace, strength, resilience, and his trademark sense of humor that never faded, even in the most difficult moments.
Steve cherished his family above all else. He was generous, hardworking, funny, compassionate, honest, and thoughtful. His intelligence and wit brought laughter and wisdom to every gathering, and his incredible sense of humor could brighten even the darkest day.
Steve worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 30 years, where he took great pride in his work and his team’s contribution to advancing health care. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends.
Outside of work, Steve found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially outdoors-whether hiking, biking, traveling, enjoying a good glass of wine, or listening to live music. He had a special love for the Christmas season and enjoyed many annual traditions including, cutting down the family Christmas tree, decorating the house, hosting family and friends, and filling the home with festive music. Steve lived his faith as an active parishioner of St. Thomas of Villanova Church for 30 years and cherished his community there.
Steve’s life was a beautiful reflection of faith, love, and laughter. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Steve’s family would like to thank Dr. Szmulewitz, Carolyn, P.A., Nurse Megan, the incredible medical team at the University of Chicago Hospital and the caring Advocate Home Health team who provided outstanding support and care throughout his cancer journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Stephen’s name to the Judy Nicholson Kidney Care Foundation www.jnfkidneycancer.org.
Visitation Friday, November 7, 2025, from 3-8 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. Family and friends will meet Saturday, November 8, 2025, at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 1201 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine for a funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Interment will be held privately at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.
