On Wednesday night, the Governor’s Office held a press conference regarding the ongoing issues at the state after it was the subject of a massive cybersecurity attack that have rendered multiple systems offline since Saturday morning.
Today, Thursday August 28, many systems are still offline; however, the Office of Emergency Management website has come online, which is meant to act as a hub for any updated information regarding the recovery.
As of Thursday morning, what we know is:
- The state systems were hacked.
- Hackers gained access to and removed private information from the servers, but the state has not yet disclosed what was contained within that data.
- They have not yet confirmed whether or not the personal information of citizens has been compromised.
- We know the attack is one of “ransomware,” aka gaining access to systems then holding them for ransom, but we do not know what or how much the hackers are asking for
- Some in-person services are functioning: see our previous reporting for the current list
State workers we spoke to are reporting being in the office, but most confirm they are still unable to work, and are just waiting for systems to come back online.
This is a developing situation and we will continue to update as new information comes in.
