Sonia Black

Sonia Velena Ann Black received her “Angel Wings” on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Sonia was born on September 19, 1974, to the late James E. Black, Jr. and Kendall Bradby Black.

Sonia joined Little Elam Baptist Church in Charles City, VA at an early age. She was a graduate of Charles City High School, Charles City, VA, Class of 1992. After graduation, she worked several jobs until she became disabled. She was a devoted mother, a loving caring person that saw the good in “ALL”. She was our Baby Girl, her Daddy’s Heart. She loved deeply without judgement.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Laila Velena Ann Black; mother, Kendall Black; brother, James E. Black, III; her sister in love, Angela A. Black (she called her sister); two nephews, James E. Black, IV (Godson) and Jameson Black; two nieces, Mariah C. Black and Malia K. Black; three aunts, Sonia B. Davenport (Frank), Darlene B. Giles (Charles), and Bonnie Black; two great-aunts, Josephine Black and Kathleen Black; godmother, Linda Craddock Waddy, two uncles, Charles S. White (Velencia) and David F. White (Robin), and with honorable mention, several cousins and a special friend/teacher, Theresa Conroy.

We would love for her to be remembered for her BIG heart and her love for everyone.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Little Elam Baptist Church, 8840 Church Lane, Charles City, VA.. Repast to follow.
