Silva Surenovna Gabriyelyan was the eldest of three children born to Suren and Nina Makaryan on 12/30/1932 in Baku, Azerbainjan.

From a young age, Silva enjoyed reading books, theater and music. Silva was an exceptional student, specifically in math and chemistry. With her passion for math and science, she spent 30 years working in the oil and gas industry as a geologist for the government, and spent a significant portion of her career training fresh university graduates from across the Soviet Union eager to get into a difficult field.

In 1989, Silva escaped the Baku Pogroms moving temporarily to Russia and ultimately to San Francisco as a refugee with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter in 1982. With a new life now in the US, Silva dedicated her life to raising her granddaughter and newborn grandson well into heir early adulthood.

Silva is survived by her loving daughter, Marina, her niece LIana with her husband Joe; her nephew Sasha with his wife Viktoria. Silva also leaves behind her grandson Boris with his wife Ashley.

Silva dedicated her life to her family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend and great mentor for all who has the honor to know her. Her gentle soul, passion for family and the joy she has brought will be remembered for generations to come.
