Shirley Fugate

Shirley Ann (Goff) Fugate age 87, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on May 8, 2025, in Springfield, Ohio. A lifelong resident of Springfield, she was born there on May 22, 1937, to Austin and Mildred Goff.

Shirley was a graduate of Enon High School and dedicated over three decades of her life to the Big Bear Supermarket, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Her strong work ethic and commitment were hallmarks of her professional life.

Beyond her career, Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time with her family, tending to her flower beds, and traveling with her beloved husband Joe. She especially cherished moments spent doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always ready with a warm smile and open arms. Her home was a place of love and laughter, where family gathered often, and memories were made.

A devoted member of Emery Chapel United Methodist Church, Shirley was actively involved in the Wesleyan Circle. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life and a source of strength during difficult times.

She is survived by the love of her life, husband of 68 years Joseph Fugate; son Tony Fugate; daughters Tracy Furderer and Melissa (Darren) Current; son-in-law Rex Johnson; sister-in-law Brenda Goff; and special niece Sandy McCaw. Shirley’s legacy also lives on through her grandchildren (Sarah, Megan, Jessica (Chad), Emily, Joseph (Rachel), Jacob, Rapheal (Rachele), Austin (Sam) and Lucas (Alex) and great-grandchildren (Colton. Jaxson, Aurora, Nevaeh, Hunter, Madison, Ty, Mayson, Cameron and Avery) who she adored, best friend Martha Rutherford and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Kimberly Johnson; parents Austin and Mildred Goff; sister Vilma Treolo; brother Bill Goff; father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Leila Fugate; sisters-in-law, Donna Williams, Lamar and Jean Ratcliff, Robert and LouBell Stapelton, Frank and Ruth Fugate, Wayne and Deloris Fugate.
