Sherita Tall

With profound sadness, we share the passing of our beloved Sherita Denise Tall, our cherished mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 19, 2024, after many courageous battles with her health. Sherita was surrounded by her parents Angela & Michael Straughter, her Aunt Sheila Willis, and her long-time partner and dearest friend Zachary Marwin Taylor. She was 40 years old.

Sherita was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 21, 1984. She was a bright and exceptionally creative student, graduating from Hilliard Darby High School in Ohio. In 2002, she earned an Associate of Applied Science with a concentration in graphic design & multimedia from Westwood College, in Dallas Texas. In 2015, she earned a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in multimedia and advertising design from the Art Institute of Dallas, who also formally acknowledged her creativity with its Outstanding Graduate award.

In September 2007, Sherita married Christian Williams and on February 16, 2008, they were blessed with a son, Rashaan David Williams (16). From that day onward to her last breath, “Shaun-ie” was the center of her world. He brought immense joy and happiness into her life. As did her younger brother Darius Gregory Tall (28).

Sherita had a zest for life, evident in her many talents, including fashion and hair styling. Her passion for the visual arts extended beyond work. An afternoon painting or perusing a museum exhibit was time well spent. She believed in maintaining a harmonious sense of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Similarly, due to her ever-kind, inclusive nature, she rarely met a stranger and would speak to injustice. A chef in her own right, she loved preparing large home-cooked meals that would pull family or friends together.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Rebecca and Donald Pellum, whom she deeply loved. She is also preceded in death by her Uncle Ray A. Williams. Sherita is survived by her parents Angela (Tall) and Michael Straughter, her son Rashaan, her brother Darius, as well as her extended paternal siblings Michael J. Straughter & Tiffany (Straughter) Butler. Additionally, she will be deeply missed by her uncles (Ronald Williams, Quentin & Charles Tall), and her aunts (Vivika Tall & Sheila Willis) as well as a host of cousins, friends, and other loved ones.
