Sheila Pendergast (nee Sharpe)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Sheila Marie Pendergast (nee Sharpe), on Tuesday July 22, 2025. With her family members by her side, she was granted her wish to pass at home surrounded by the towering maples that safeguarded her beloved home.

Sheila was predeceased by her parents Gideon and Molly (nee Corbett) Sharpe; her brother Basil; her sister Lynda Meades and parents in-law Alexander and Elizabeth Pendergast.

Leaving to mourn with loving memories, her devoted husband of 63 years Douglas;

sons Douglas (Dallas) and David (Renée); granddaughters Olivia, Devon, Abigail and Delaney; sisters Barbara Kelly (Jim), Bunnie Fewer (Dave) and Marlene Holden (Ron); brother Don Sharpe (Marjorie); brothers-in-law Dan Meades (Marilyn) and Gord Pendergast (Joan); as well as numerous special nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.

Sheila had a larger-than-life personality and lived each day to the fullest by sharing laughter and joy with her family and friends. Her prides and joy in life were here two sons, Douglas and David, and her four granddaughters, Olivia, Devon, Abigail, and Delaney. She could often be found at the hockey rink, soccer field, or theatre watching and supporting their activities and antics.

Sheila had a great sense of humour and was welcoming to all who entered her home. She was frequently known for feeding the street hockey gang on Waterford Heights or driving the crew around in the station wagon. Sheila volunteered on the Waterford Hospital Women’s Auxiliary for many years, loved her role as the parent-chaperone for the Beaconsfield Saxon’s Cheerleading squad in the early 80s, and was an avid member of several prayer groups throughout the city. Sheila also treasured her annual trips to Florida each year with the “Dolly Sisters” and their husbands.

In recent years, Sheila could often be found on her front deck rocking in the sun and saying hello to the walkers on their way to Bowring Park. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

We’d like to also thank the staff at Serenity Nursing and Home Support and the NL Health Services Palliative Care Team for their passionate care during her last days.

Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl on Monday, July 28th from 6-9pm and Tuesday, July 29th from 2-4pm and 6-9 pm. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 30th at 12pm from Barrett’s Mount Pearl Chapel.

Flowers are graciously accepted, or donations can be made in Sheila’s honour to the Bowring Park Foundation at https://bowringpark.com/support/donations/
