Sarah Monroe

On April 13, 2023, Sarah Kristine Monroe died peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. Sarah’s life will be honored during a celebration of life on May 8th, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Lakeside Colonial Chapel, 830 D street, Marysville Ca, 95901.

Sarah (Hildreth) Monroe was born on October 15, 1977, to Jim Hildreth and Kristine (Smith) Anderson at Naval Hospital, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Sarah spent her childhood in Storm Lake, Iowa, where she grew up spending much of her time with family and friends. From a young age, Sarah enjoyed all things beautiful! Whether timeless designs or the latest trends, Sarah had an eye for style, glam, and beauty which would remain a passion throughout her life.

As a young adult, Sarah joined the United States Air Force. This was an accomplishment in which she was very proud. Most of Sarah’s career in the military would be dedicated to the legal department as a paralegal. Throughout her years of service to our country, Sarah traveled the world meeting wonderful people, many who would become dear friends. Over her 14 years in the military, Sarah completed two combat tours of duty and was honorably discharged in 2010.

Sarah was kind, loving, and generous. She thought of others often and was supportive to many in her life. She was a great listener and supporter when anyone needed a friend. Unfortunately in 2013, Sarah was diagnosed with Stage 4 HER2 positive Metastatic Breast Cancer. On her cancer journey, Sarah was blessed with meeting many wonderful people – most who would become friends. Sarah was grateful for those she met and the many who cared for her and supported her along the way. Sarah shared much of her journey publicly in hopes that it might help to inform others about her disease. Not only did she accomplish that goal, but Sarah also inspired many with her resilience and perseverance.

Sarah’s greatest love was her children. She loved them beyond measure, and they were truly the fuel for her fierce determination to live.

Sarah was preceded in death by her mother, Kristine Anderson, her maternal grandparents, Paul and Norma Smith, and her paternal grandparents, Bruce and Joyce Hildreth.

Those who continue to live with Sarah’s wonderful memories are her husband of 17 years, William Anhtony Monroe, children: Evan James Lykins, Nicholas Patrick Monroe, and Mira Isabella Monroe; step-children: Tyler Monroe, Jacob Monroe; father, Jim Hildreth and wife Carol; sister Abby (Chuck) Glass and half-brother, Michael Hildreth; step-father, Todd Anderson; step-siblings: Mollie (Carlos) Martinez and Justin (Kristin) Anderson; mother-in-law, Patricia Coleman; and sisters-in-law, Meredith Monroe and Eyrne Monroe; grandsons (Malikai, Roman, and Elijah), nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous forever friends.
