Samuel Fortner

Samuel Fortner, a devoted husband, father, and veteran, passed away on May 17, 2025, at the age of 76.

Born on August 30, 1948, Samuel resided in Sumiton and spent his life serving his country and loving his family.

Samuel is survived by his wife, Peggy Fortner; children, Sammy Fortner, Craig Fortner (Amanda), and Vanessa (Shane); brothers, Joe Fortner and David Fortner; sister Ann Stepp; and his beloved grandbabies.

A proud veteran, Samuel served in the U.S. Army, completing two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He cherished his time in service and the bonds he formed.

In his free time, Samuel enjoyed fishing, playing on his computer, singing his favorite songs, and spending quality time with his grandbabies. He was a very proud Paw Paw!

Preceded in death by his parents, John and Lilly Fortner; Joyce Odum; brothers, John Wayne and Bob Fortner. Samuel’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Samuel. Your love, service, and memory will be cherished by those who loved you.
