Salvatore Catalfamo

Salvatore Catalfamo of Mahopac NY, a devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old.

Born in 1935, in Manhattan, Sal grew up in the Bronx with his parents and two siblings. As a child, he found joy in the simple pleasures of riding his bike, playing ball in the neighborhood, and mastering the game of checkers—a skill that earned him the title of checkers champion in high school.

Sal met the love of his life, Marie, when he was just seven years old and she was six. They grew up on the same street in the Bronx, attending PS 103 together and later Evander Childs High School. Their childhood friendship blossomed into a lifelong romance. After serving honorably in the United States Air Force and being stationed in Alaska, Sal returned home and married Marie on July 27, 1957.

Together, they built a beautiful life and raised five children: John, Cathy, Jack, Paula, and Christine. Sal was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.

A skilled and respected senior project manager in the construction industry for 40 years, Sal was known for his strong work ethic, leadership, and attention to detail.

Beyond his career, Sal lived a full and vibrant life. He had a passion for teaching and spent time mentoring children in schools, especially sharing his love of chess. He enjoyed playing volleyball with his family, kayaking with his daughter, and swimming with his children and grandchildren. Sal’s deep love for water and outdoor activities was matched only by his devotion to his family.

He had a great appreciation for music from the 1950s, especially the classics of Frank Sinatra and Neil Diamond. A wonderful dancer, Sal loved to spin Marie across the floor at family gatherings, their love always shining through. He also shared a special bond with his loyal dog, Belle.

Sal will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him. His presence was a source of strength, joy, and comfort. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A celebration of Salvatore’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Clark & Giordano Funeral Home, 2104 Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown Heights, NY.
