Sally Cosby

Sally L. (Groves) Cosby, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, in San Mateo, FL. She was born in Pittsfield, MA, on August 24, 1935, to the late Sara (Palmer) and John Groves. She was predeceased by her beloved brothers, John and Richard Groves.

A proud 1953 Pro Merito graduate of Pittsfield High School, Sally then graduated from the General Electric Drafting Training course in 1955. Sally began her career as a draftsman in the Naval Ordnance Department at General Electric in Pittsfield. But the true adventure of her life began when she met Richard “Dick” Cosby, the love of her life. They married on February 25, 1956, and together built a loving home in Feeding Hills, MA, where they raised their four children and shared nearly seven decades of marriage.

Sally’s greatest joy was her family, and she centered her life around raising her children. She was their constant cheerleader on the sidelines, chauffeur to where they needed to be, and the perfect moral compass, teaching them the benefits of hard work. She was an incredible cook, and her holiday meals were so memorable, always filled with large family gatherings and good food.

Sally had a love for life’s simple pleasures. She and Dick shared a passion for dancing and were a captivating pair on the dance floor. She and Dick spent many summers at their happy place, Camping on the Battenkill, in Arlington, VT. She also found deep purpose in community service and was especially proud of her time with The Order of the Eastern Star, where she held the honored title of Worthy Matron.

Sally leaves behind her devoted husband, Richard Cosby, and their four children: Kim Fitzpatrick of Chelmsford, MA; Craig Cosby and his wife, Judith, of Feeding Hills, MA; Lori Putnam and her husband, Henry, of Indian Orchard, MA; and Linda Wyzik and her husband, Edward, of Monson, MA. She was the proud grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of three—with two more on the way—each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Sally’s life was a testament to love, family, and quiet strength. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, allowing all who loved her to gather, share memories, and honor the incredible woman she was.
