Ruth Aquilina

AQUILINA- “Ruth” Mary passed away at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Friday, July 4, 2025 at the age of 83. Survived by her loving children Mary Ann Walters (Robert), Michael Aquilina (Lindsay), Keren Porter (Linda), Julie Visscher (Nicholas) and Lisa Bradish. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Melissa, Robert, Danielle, David, Allie, Aryn, Megan, Jacqueline, Michael, Tori, Ashley and Raymond; her great grandchildren; grand fur babies, along with many relatives and friends in Canada, New Zealand, Australia and England. Predeceased by her parents Guy and Edith Jones and her birth mother Nola Beattie

Ruth left her home in New Zealand traveling through England and finally settling her young family in Canada. St. Thomas became her forever home. She was a seamstress by trade but worked many years at Brass Craft where she formed many friendships. She was known to be kind, caring, giving and was loved by all that knew her.

She adored her old movies, music, pets, but most of all her family and friends. Ruth remained independent in her senior years, driving her friends to their appointments and out for coffee or out in her yard watering flowers.

Ruth passed away peacefully with her family by her side after battling hard for 11 days due to complications from an infection.

Our family would like to thank the STEGH ICU unit for doing everything possible to help her win this fight but in the end our Mum decided it was her time.

Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 6 pm – 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 11 am. If desired, in honor of Ruth’s love of animals, donations can be made to any animal rescue of choice or Valora Place would be appreciated.
