Ruben A. Gundrum, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 1, 2025, at Waterford in Hartford, Wisconsin
Ruben was born on September 24, 1928, in St. Lawrence, WI, to Nickolas and Juliana (née Schulz) Gundrum. On October 25, 1958, he married the love of his life, Eileen Gehring, and together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.
A hardworking man all his life, Ruben farmed and also worked in construction as a skilled mason. He had a deep love for farming and caring for animals, which remained his true passion.
Ruben was known for his creativity and craftsmanship, whether it was woodworking, designing decorative yard art from scrap metal, or building birdhouses, wishing wells, wheelbarrows, trailers, and even his own boat
Ruben had a great sense of humor, always ready with a joke to brighten someone’s day. He loved music and polka dancing, and most of all, cherished time spent with his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy.
Ruben is survived by his wife, Eileen; children, David (Sandra), Stephen (Deb), Laurie (Tyler), Daniel (Ursula), Dale (Connie), Leon (Sandy); 16 grandchildren, Allison, Jessica, Kathryn Gundrum, Sara Strook, Becky Hauser, Josh Gundrum, Kourtney Hasch, Korissa Mislang, Koral Thill, Mauricio Gundrum, Gianna ,Maya Gundrum, Collin, Austin, Brayden, Brystol Gundrum; 13 cherished great-grandchildren; his sister, Patronella Koloski; brothers-in-law, Dennis Gehring , Kenny Gehring ,Frank August; sister-in-law Louise Gundrum. He is further survived by many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Luke, Bernard, Dennis; sisters, Ethelreda, Gladys; parents-in-law, John (Celia) Gehring; brothers-in-law, Gerald Gehring, Robert Kakes, John Koloski; sisters-in-law, Maryann, Mary Ann, Mary Gehring, Helen Gundrum, Jeanne Gundrum and Myrtle Gundrum.
Mass of Christian Burial for Ruben will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church (1108 Rome Rd., Rubicon, WI 53078). Family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 a.m. until the start of Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will immediately follow at the church cemetery.
