ALBION—Royce Eugene Garrett, 94, of Albion, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Royce was born April 30, 1931, in Scotia, Nebraska, to Marion Ira Garrett and Fannie Emmaline (Brown) Garrett, the youngest of 13 children. In 1934, the family moved to Pacific Junction, Iowa, and later to Glenwood, Iowa, where Royce attended school and graduated with the class of 1949.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force with his long-time friend, Keith Tucker. After serving his enlistment, he attended and graduated from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, and began his 42-year career as an educator and school administrator. Following his retirement from his career in education, he moved to Albion, Nebraska.
Royce was a 20-year member of the Crofton American Legion. He loved watching girls’ basketball and football, avidly cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones and the Nebraska Huskers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Wilma, Waunda, James, Winona, Paul, Dorotha, Richard, Ross, Catherine (Kay), Yvonne (Billie), Lucille, and Marion (Pete); and 11 nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his loving companion, Mama Jo, the dog; and 19 nieces and nephews; many great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews and families; and many wonderful friends.
His ashes will be buried at a later date in the family plot at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Iowa.
