Rosemary Smith
A Celebration of Life Open House to honor the life and legacy of Rosemary Smith, age 78, of Mountain Lake, will be held at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom on Sunday, July 20th at 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
Rosemary Smith was born on December 16th, 1946, in Mountain Lake, MN to Maynard and Bernadette (Burton) Mogler. She was raised in Darfur, MN where her parents owned an implement dealership (Darfur Implement). She was baptized in the faith at the Lutheran Church in Darfur, MN. In 1964 Rosemary graduated from Comfrey School in Comfrey, MN., and further extended her education by earning an associates degree in cosmetology.
On December 11th, 1965, Rosemary was united in marriage to the love of her life Robert F. Smith at the Lutheran Chruch in Darfur, MN.They went on to have 3 children together and lived in Darfur, MN. before settling into their forever home on the farm outside of Mountain Lake, MN. Rosemary ran her own beauty shop in Darfur and then in Windom MN for many years and also managed the salon at the Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake, MN, all while helping her husband on the family farm and raising their children. She also volunteered at the Food Shelf in Mountain Lake, MN. Rosemary loved helping people, loved life, her husband and loved spending time with her children. Nothing was more important to her than family.
When she wasn’t working, Rosemary enjoyed spending time in the kitchen trying new recipes and creating amazing dishes. Her desserts and treats were second to none, and always welcome to anyone that came up the driveway. She loved gardening and designing beautiful gardens with her flowers. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and taking the camper down south for the winter. Many lifelong friendships were born on these trips. She also enjoyed cruising around with her miniature toy poodle Cracker on her golf cart “Lulu”. She would drive all over the farm everyday just to see what you were up to and say hi.
On July 8th, 2025 Rosemary passed away surrounded by friends and loved ones. She will forever be missed by so many people. Rosemary is survived by her husband Robert F. Smith and her children John Smith of Mountain Lake, MN, Robb (Amber) Smith of Windom, MN, Tonya (Mike) Wallert of Mountain Lake, MN; grandchildren: Dawson (Jessica) Smith of Carrollton, GA, Clarice (Cody) Bannor of Las Vegas, NV, Kevin Wallert of Mankato, MN, Callie (Cody) Zimmer of Windom, MN, Cole Jackson of Mankato, MN; great grandchildren: Arlo Smith and Olivia Zimmer; sister: Terry Blume of New Ulm, MN, Tim (Julia) Mogler of Las Vegas, NV, brother-in-law Steven (Roxie) Smith of Loveland CO., many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents: Maynard and Bernadette Mogler; brother, Bobby Mogler; sister, Barbara Samuelson ;and parents-in-law: Fred and Ruth Smith.
