Ronald F. Cantrell, 83, of Paola, KS passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025 at the Hospice House of Olathe surrounded by loved ones. Ron was born on May 22, 1941, in Wellington, KS. Ron was a supportive, reliable, and loving individual who dedicated his life to service, both in his professional and personal endeavors.

He was a graduate of Wichita State University and, following college, served his country faithfully for 20 years in the Navy, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After his retirement from the military, Ron worked for the IRS for another 20 years. His military career took him around the world to places like Japan and Vietnam. In addition, he traveled to 49 of the 50 United States. Stateside, Ron’s favorite place to visit was Yellowstone National Park where he could enjoy the animals and the scenery. He held a special place in his heart for rescue animals and, together with his family, adopted from many rescues over the years. Ron’s devout faith in the Catholic Church and his beloved family were the most important things to him.

Ron is survived by his loving daughter, Angelica (Jim) Musil; son, Mark (Jessica) Cantrell; godson, Tim (Nancy) Hennig; and his close family friends: John Calore and Genevieve Shrontz. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Regina Cantrell of Wellington, KS and his sister, DeAnne Bollenback of Wichita, KS.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2025 with the family present to receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2025 in St. Anthony St. Rose Catholic Church of Wellington, KS. The funeral mass will immediately follow and begin at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2025 in the church. Interment with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m, Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas.
