    It is with saddened hearts that we share the passing of our brother, Roger Thome, on Saturday, May 17th. He was the eldest of nine children born to Valentine and Marcella (Koenigs) Thome. Roger was born on August 2, 1934, and baptized into the Catholic Faith on August 5, 1934. He attended St. John the Baptist School in Johnsburg through 8th grade and then attended the vocational school in Fond du Lac. He started his working career at the age of sixteen hauling canned milk for Adrian Schmitz Trucking. He entered the Army in July 1957 and was honorably discharged in May 1963. Roger was recognized as a disabled American Veteran. After serving in the military, he worked at Tecumseh Products and then went on to work at the Midland Cooperative (now known as Country Visions) doing farm tire repairs and sales.

    Roger is survived by his siblings Elmer (Lorraine) Thome, Mary (Andrew) Gulig of Malone, Joan (Ben) Brenner and Val (Sharon) Thome of St. Peter, and Marlys Thome (Lorenzo Fazio) of Windsor, Canada and sister-in-law Joanne Thome of Malone. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews and great and great, great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Marcella Thome; brothers Ellsworth (Moose) and Lyle; Lyle’s wives, Evelyn and Barbara; sister, Louann Simon and her husband, Harvey; special friend, Grace Stenz; nephews, Anthony Thome and Joseph Thome and niece, Annette Gifford; great niece, Vivian Freund and great nephew Nicholas Thome.

    Roger was a lifetime member of Our Lady of the Holyland, St. John’s Parish. He served as an usher for many years and was an active member of the Holy Name Society. He was a charter member of the Malone Area Heritage Museum. Roger was also a member of the Improved Order of Redmen, Council 52, the American Legion, Abler-Engel Post 454, and he was a 64-year member of the Eagles Club.

    Roger very much enjoyed the game of baseball. He played and then coached many years for the Johnsburg Athletic Club

    A celebration of Roger’s life will take place on Thursday, May 22, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish, St John’s site, Johnsburg. The Family will receive visitors from 9:00 AM to 11:15 AM with Mass to follow at 11:30 AM . Burial will follow the mass at St. John’s Cemetery.
