Rita Guttilla, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Chicago on August 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 80 years old.
Born on August 31, 1944, Rita lived a full productive life managing her own company and a strong devotion to Queen of all Saints Parish. She was married to her husband, Nicholas Guttilla (died December 27, 2008), for nearly 50 years.
Rita is survived by her two sons, Peter Guttilla and Christopher (Melissa) Guttilla. She also leaves behind her two granddaughters, Gracyn and Paige, whom she adored. Rita is also survived by her sister Doloris Kirschbaum, with whom she shared a close and loving bond. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Kirschbaum.
Over the past six months, Rita faced her battle with cancer with incredible courage and grace, supported by her devoted family. She will always be remembered for her strong will, business acumen and devotion to her family. Outside of work and her family, she found a unique joy in the companionship of her dogs, Lilly and Molly.
In honoring her life, the family asks for peaceful reflection and remembrance of the moments Rita shared with all whose lives she touched. A Memorial Mass will be held at Queen of All Saints Basilica on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 10am. Inurnment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. For information www.smithcorcoran.com or 773.736.3833.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Rita’s name would be appreciated towards either the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the American Cancer Society.
