Richard Walsh of San Francisco, age 95, passed away peacefully at his home on October 20, 2025 due to a heart condition.
Richard was born to Patrick and Catherine (nee Keane) Walsh in Waterford, Ireland on February 17, 1930. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 and settled in San Francisco. He became a US citizen while serving in the US Army. He met his wife, Mary at the KRB ballroom after returning from the service and they married in 1961. He enjoyed a long career as a San Francisco Firefighter and retired as a Captain.
He was an avid hiker and loved walking along Ocean Beach and going to Java Beach for coffee. A proud Irishman, he carried the Waterford flag in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade for many years. At the age of 95, he authored a book titled, The Adventures of Grandad’s Hat.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, his daughter Catherine and his sister Nancy. He is survived by his loving children Kevin, Theresa and Helen and his grandchildren Brendan, Roan, Logan, Patrick, Forest and Dominic “Nico”. He also leaves behind his sister Rita and many beloved nieces and nephews, and Lady Ellen.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his wonderful caregivers Jesusa, Enrique and Perla.
Friends may visit on Wednesday, November 5th at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave. in Daly City from 4-7pm where a Rosary Vigil will begin at 6pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 6th at 11:00 am at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 2559 40th Ave. in San Francisco. He will be laid to rest with his beloved Mary at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
