We celebrate the homegoing of Richard Donald Powell Hallett, known affectionately to all as Don.
Born on March 23, 1935, in Amsterdam, New York, Don was a beacon of light and joy throughout his earthly journey. He was called to his eternal home on June 2, 2025 by his beloved Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he longed earnestly to see. From the very day of his birth, Don’s life was a testament to the enduring spirit of love and compassion.
He was preceded in death by his cherished mother, Myrtle Powell, and father, James, both of whom, along with his brother Winston and sister Grace Vivian, have welcomed him with open arms into the Kingdom of Heaven. Don was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Paul Gundrum, Donna Hallett, Ernie Dopp, Jeannine Hallett, and Chuck Hallenbeck, who are no doubt rejoicing at his arrival.
Yet, as we bid farewell to our dear brother Don, we also give thanks for the family he leaves behind. His sisters, Carol Gundrum, Mary Dopp, and Midge Hallenbeck, along with his brothers, Dave (Karen), Coleman, Spence (Cindy) and special brother, Jimmy. He also leaves behind many, many nieces and nephews. The family bonds shared with Don will continue to find strength and comfort in each other as they cherish his memory.
Don’s life was a living testament of joy and service to Jesus, as he was a lifelong participant of The Arc of Lexington. Here, he found more than just education; he found his extended family. His Lexington family of housemates, friends, and loving, dedicated caregivers were a source of constant support and companionship. They, too, will feel the absence of his kind spirit but will forever be guided by the love he shared so generously with each of them.
Don was a man of many talents and passions. He loved Christian music and it was through this divine medium that he often expressed the depth of his faith. A passionate woodworker, Don created memorable pieces that not only showcased his craftsmanship but also his ability to infuse love into each creation. His music extended beyond the spiritual hymns, as he also enjoyed playing the harmonica and acoustic violin, bringing joy to the lives of all who had the pleasure to listen.
Today, as we say our goodbyes to Richard Donald Powell Hallett, let us do so with gratitude for the blessing of his presence among us. Rest well, dear brother, until we meet again at Jesus’ feet.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
II Timothy 4:7
