Richard Altizio Jr

Richard M. Altizio, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 25, 2025. He was 93 years old and lived a long, fulfilling life.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Jean. They are now ‘together again’. They met in San Diego when he was in the Navy and Jean volunteered at the USO. They soon married and moved to Noe Valley in San Francisco, then in 1960, moved to South San Francisco with their two daughters.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Bill) and Annette (Erik), his grandchildren Courtney (James), Rachel (Joaquin), Tony (Tiffany) and Tim (Michelle), and his great-grandchildren RJ, Juliet, Hadley, Rosalie, Everett, Henry and Layla.

Being a great grandfather was one of the greatest joys of his life.

Rich worked for Pacific Bell in San Francisco. He worked his way up to be a construction supervisor and was also one of the first called when there was work to be done on the barge in the Bay.

When he took early retirement, he worked as a consultant for the phone company for a while, then fully retired.

He joined The Pioneers, a group of retirees from PacBell that met monthly for lunch at the Elks Club in SSF. He also volunteered his time alongside Jean at the South San Francisco Women’s Club, where she served in various positions over the years. They both shared a volunteer spirit and enjoyed being engaged with their community.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Garden Chapel, Tuesday, September 2nd, from 4 pm to 8 pm.

We will meet at Garden Chapel on September 3rd at 11 am and from there will proceed to Skylawn Memorial Park for his committal service.
