It is with much sadness that we announce that Reverend Evelyn May Smith Cotter (nee Robert’s) passed peacefully away while in the presence of family on the evening ofJuly 14, 2025 at the Dr. Leonard A Miller Center.
Evelyn was predeceased by husbands Kenneth Cotter (2021) and Leonard Smith (2007); parents Violet and Norman Roberts and in-laws Margaret and Levi Smith; sister-in -law Martha Follett; brothers-in-law William Smith, George Smith and Calvin Follett.
Leaving to morn daughter Michelle (Gary); sons Michael(Teresita) and Mitchell(Tammy); sister Mary Dorcas Warren(Chesley); grandchildren Timothy O’Grady, Jeremy Gilbert, Tyler Smith, Megan Jane Smith, John Penny Smith, Callie Penny Smith, Chelsie Reid, Bella Reid, Aria; niece Dr. Heather Warren (Mark Hill); nephew Paul Warren (Holly); special friends Velda Tizzard, Ruby Buttler, George and Alice Short, and Barb.
Evelyn was ordained into the priesthood in 1988 at the Anglican Cathedral in Corner Brook. Her ministry began at the Parish of Saint Andrew in Sunnyside and her continued ministry brought her to the Parish of Saint Augustine in Stephenville and the Parish of Saint Paul in Grand Bay. After retiring from Grand Bay she settled in Hearts Content and was called back from retirement into service at the Parish of Saint Mark in Shearstown. Evelyn often spoke fondly of the people she had the privilege of serving during her parish ministry. She will be warmly remembered by those whose lives she touched.
May she rest in peace and let light perpetual shine upon her.
The family invites you to join them in the basement of the Anglican Church of the Ascension, Mount Pearl on Thursday July 17th 2025 for a reception and time to celebrate Reverend Evelyn’s life from 12:30pm-2:00pm.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 17th, 2025 at 2:00pm from the Anglican Church of the Ascension, Mount Pearl. Inurnment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road.
The service will be live streamed for those who are unable to attend in person and the link can be found below.
Donations in Reverend Evelyn’s name can be made to the Anglican Church of the Ascension or to the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund.
