Assemblyman Bert Gurr (R-Elko) announced today that he will be running for re-election to Nevada State Assembly District 33. This seat encompasses most of rural eastern Nevada and includes most of Elko and Eureka Counties, all of White Pine and Lincoln Counties, and a large portion of Nye County making it the largest Assembly District in Nevada.
Assemblyman Gurr was first elected to this seat in 2022 and has served for two regular sessions and two special sessions of the Nevada Legislature. During that time, he has served on the Government Affairs, Growth and Infrastructure, and Natural Resources Committees.
“Much has changed since I first came to Nevada in 1949, but one thing that hasn’t is my love for this great state and our rural way of life,” said Assemblyman Bert Gurr. “I ran for the Assembly to make sure rural Nevada always has a seat at the table when decisions are made about our future. Our communities deserve a strong, conservative voice that stands up for our values, our livelihoods, and the people who make rural Nevada what it is. I look forward to bringing more commonsense conservative legislation during the next session that will help all Nevadans.”
Assemblyman Gurr’s legislative record includes several key achievements focused on supporting local government, small business, and public safety. Assembly Bill 133 reforms the operations of the county treasurer’s office by requiring it to remain open until at least 5 p.m. on business days and dedicating a portion of unclaimed excess funds from delinquent tax sales toward technology improvements within the office. Assembly Bill 449 revises regulations for smaller water and sewage public utilities by expanding the criteria for those eligible to use simplified rate change procedures, helping to keep costs down for small, rural providers. Furthermore, Assembly Bill 375 modernizes laws concerning intoxicating liquor, authorizing local governments to allow certain food establishments to sell or deliver sealed alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption, which will generate revenue through a state surcharge to fund the new Ignition Interlock and DUI Reduction Program. It also officially designates the Picon Punch as the official state drink of Nevada.
Bert Gurr is currently a small business owner and Realtor in Elko County. His diverse background includes being a past member and chairman of Head Start in Elko County, crew boss on the Bureau of Land Management’s Fire Crew, past president of the Elko County Sportsmen’s Association, past chairman of the Elko County Wildlife Advisory Board, project manager of the Spring Creek Development, past president of both the Elko County Board of REALTORS and Nevada Association of REALTORS, and he served six years as a Nevada Real Estate commissioner.
