Peter J. Heverin of Newtown, PA passed away on October 14, 2025. He was born in Trenton, NJ on March 3, 1953. He grew up on the lovely grounds of George School in Newtown, due to his father’s employment at the school. He attended Temple University.
Peter was employed by The University of Pennsylvania for almost 20 years. Peter was the IT Director for MAGPI Regional Optical Network (RON), a speed networking collaboration connection point, providing Internet2 access for Penn and some of our regional universities and hospitals. Since 2006 he has worked tirelessly to make MAGPI a successful organization and service. He was also the lead contributor, designer, and project manager for the Pennsylvania Research and Educational Network (PennREN), a 1,600+ mile fiber network throughout Pennsylvania. In addition to his work at Penn he serviced a few school districts in Pennsylvania creating digital and phone systems.
For almost 30 years Peter provided technology consulting services to the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District. Peter’s most lasting contribution to T/E came in the 1990’s when he personally designed the private fiber network that still connects all the buildings today. It is a point of pride to be the only school district in Chester County to own its own fiber network, due in large part to Peter’s vision three decades ago. Today Peter’s influence can be seen in virtually every aspect of technology in T/E from the wired and wireless network infrastructure to the phone system.
Peter was a valued member of the Headley Community in Newtown. Peter and his wife Kathy have lived in Headley for 27 years. He made a significant impact in various roles at Headley, including being President of the Board of Directors twice and most recently serving as secretary. Peter was a vital resource for the history of the community, including its infrastructure and landscaping.
Peter enjoyed roaming around New York City, visiting every museum, poking around used book stores, attending lectures at Princeton on Irish history, classical music, photography, and found architectural plans of almost anything a source of interest. Peter was someone who was attentive, cultured, and incredibly kind. He was a patient person never getting upset when any sort of problem occurred and did his best to solve the problem.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hindert Heverin, who shared his life for 35 amazing and wonderful years, his brothers Brian and his wife Liz, and Michael and his wife Noreen. He is survived by his nephews Thomas and Stephen and his wife, Erica. He is also survived by many cousins living in the U.S., Ireland, and England.
Relatives and friends are invited to Peter’s Life Celebration on Thursday, October 23, 2025 10 to 12 Noon and to his Funeral Mass at 12 noon at the Olde Church of St. Andrew, 135 S. Sycamore Street, Newtown, PA. Interment will follow in the Paris Cemetery.
