Mr. Johnny Eugene Ellis, age 79, of West Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Ashe County on July 27, 1946, to the late Thomas George and Clyde Eldreth Ellis. Mr. Ellis served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Jake Miller officiating. Military rites will be held at the church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Ellis was a member of Sabbath Home Baptist Church. He worked as a registered nurse at Ashe Memorial Hospital until his retirement, dedicating his life to caring for others.
He is survived by his two sons, John David Ellis (Anne) and Tavis Daniel Ellis (Sonya), all of West Jefferson; a sister, Joann Hall, of Lansing; seven grandchildren, Laken Osborne (Daniel) of West Jefferson, Mylah Ellis, Tayla Ellis, and Treythan Ellis, all of West Jefferson, Sara Ellis of Jefferson, and Rachael Ellis and Ethan Ellis, both of West Jefferson; two great-grandchildren, Carman Lewis of West Jefferson and Chasen Scott of Jefferson; and a niece, Angie Burchette, of Lansing.
Mr. Ellis will be remembered as a compassionate and devoted nurse, loving family man, faithful church member, and proud veteran.
