Peggy Lynn McCabe, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on July 18, 1951, in Montevideo, Minnesota, she was the beloved daughter of Bernice and the late Donald Mullins.
Peggy dedicated her life to being a loving homemaker, finding joy in cooking, baking, and sewing. Her true passion, however, was her card-making ministry, through which she touched the lives of many with her creativity and thoughtfulness. She made 1,000’s of cards over the years, each one with its own unique verse of scripture, and sent many to the Native American tribes in northern Minnesota and southern Canada.
She pursued higher education in a small college and worked diligently in the medical field. Since 1988, Peggy had made Western North Carolina her home, where she created a warm and welcoming environment for her family and friends.
Peggy is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Mike McCabe. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. She leaves behind her sons, Chris McCabe (Sarah), Andy McCabe, Jeff McCabe, and Adam McCabe; her adored grandchildren, Brian McCabe, Erika McCabe, Jacob McCabe, Caroline McCabe, and Molly McCabe; her dear mother, Bernice Mullins; her sister, Bonnie Lofthus; her brother, Jeff Mullins (Lisa); sisters-in-law, Cheryl McCabe, Peggy Marie McCabe, and Terri Steidl (Mike); brother-in-law, Chris McCabe (Terry); nieces, Shannon McCabe, Heidi Doring, Katie Anklin, Sarah Llanes, Steffanie Lofthus, and Stacy Lopez; and nephews, John Doring, Michael Peter McCabe, Sam Steidl, Tommy Steidl, Bryan Mullins, Tyler Mullins, and Stephen Lofthus.
An informal celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in the chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
Peggy’s warmth and kindness will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy of love will continue in the hearts of her family and friends. She wanted everyone to know that Mike was her second-best friend. Jesus Christ was her best friend.
