Paula Moats
- June 19, 2025

Mrs. Paula M. (Weddle) Moats, 70, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born on January 22, 1955, in Waynesboro, Paula was one of five children born to the late Paul M. and Gladys Mae (Shockey) Weddle. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.
She graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1973. On March 2, 1974, she married the love of her life, Eugene M. Moats, at Glen Furney Church in Waynesboro.
Paula’s career was marked by her dedication to serving others. For 17 years, she brightened the days of customers at Waynesboro Walmart with her kind heart and infectious smile. Before that, she managed Big Apple Market for 18 years, where her leadership and genuine care for people shone through.
A member of Waynesboro Fish & Game, Paula found solace and joy in fishing, whether casting lines in streams or off a pier. Her favorite moments were spent with her beloved grandchildren, sharing laughter and stories by the water. Paula’s zest for life extended to her love for trips to Parx Casino in Shippensburg, spirited Monopoly games, and weekly bingo nights with her twin sister, Pauline. Known to have some colorful language and unfiltered honesty, Paula kept things real, always approaching life with a happy-go-lucky spirit. Paula’s kindness knew no bounds. She was always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or offer a warm smile, or make you laugh. Her love for the simple pleasures—beach trips, heartfelt conversations, and time with family made every moment she shared a treasure.
Paula’s heart was her family. She adored her husband, Eugene, her son, Travis Moats (Chastity) of Blue Ridge Summit, and her daughter, Tracy Ebersole (Sam) of Waynesboro. Her six grandchildren—Tyler Moats (Colleen), whom she raised from a young age, Andrew Ebersole (Kara), Abby Ebersole (Clay), Adison Ebersole, Alex Ebersole, and Annie Ebersole—were the light of her life. She delighted in her two great-grandchildren, Lily Green and Harper Green, and eagerly awaited the arrival of another in November. Paula’s love also enveloped her sisters, her twin Pauline Diffenbaucher of Greencastle and Deb Shreve of Waynesboro, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Allen Ebersole, and her brother Eugene Weddle and a sister, Linda Bonebrake. Paula’s legacy of love and generosity lives on in the countless lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. Waynesboro, PA, with Pastor Dwan N. Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 23rd at the funeral home and again one hour before her service on Tuesday, in the funeral home.
