Patti was born and raised in South Denver. She graduated from South High School in 1962. After high school her mother insisted that she attend Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, as her great grandmother had been the annual national recruiter for the school. She graduated in 1964 with an associate’s degree in music. Patti was not at all interested in attending a two-year girls’ school in the boonies of Missouri, but in less than a week she grew to love it there. After Cottey, she returned to Denver where she attended Denver University and got a B.A. in Sociology and Psychology.
During Patti’s time at DU, she met the love of her life Larry at a sorority dance. Patti had a date with a good friend, and Larry, who was stationed at Lowry Air Force base at the time, was on a blind date with one of Patti’s sorority sisters. Patti’s date went off with her friend, which meant that Patti and Larry ended up spending the evening together; which suited Patti just fine. She ended up inviting Larry to her home for Thanksgiving dinner, and the rest was as they say history. They married in 1966 and went on to have three children.
After graduating from college, Patti got a job as a Juvenile Parole Agent for a year, but due to budget cuts she lost her job. By this time Larry was back from serving in Thailand and they both worked for the Arapahoe County Juvenile Detention Center for a year. The job provided housing that they shared with another couple. When her mother died, they moved into her childhood home in south Denver to help her father. They were there for about ten years.
In 1983 they moved to Bailey where they resided for 17 years. Patti went to work for the Department of Social Services in healthcare. She held that job for 34 years before retiring in 2001. After retirement, Patti and Larry moved to Littleton. They enjoyed going on several cruises together, their favorite being a cruise through the Panama Canal.
Patti is survived by her beloved husband Larry Campbell, children Michael Campbell (Kenia), Laird Campbell (Kristin) and Elizabeth Campbell Robinson (Gilbert). Her little sisters Candace Trujillo Thompson and Jeanine Campbell Soos. Her grandchildren Alex Campbell (Sadie) and Bridget Campbell. plus many other cherished in-laws, nieces and nephews, and friends.
