Patriciu Mateescu (May 19, 1927 Rachitoasa, Romania -September 23, 2025 Princeton, New Jersey) passed away peacefully at his home. Patriciu was a prominent sculptor and ceramist, endowed with boundless creativity and sensitivity, who had a huge contribution to the recognition of ceramics as a branch of visual art in its own right.
Patriciu’s work, ranging from small-scale porcelain to large-scale stoneware monuments, was awarded numerous international prizes and is exhibited in Romania, United States, and Europe. His later output is part of the Hamangia Foundation in Princeton, New Jersey.
He is remembered as a consequential artist, as a dedicated mentor to the young generations of artists, and as being the dynamic center of his family and every group of friends.
Patriciu Mateescu is survived by his beloved wife Rodica, his son Cezar, stepson Ion, daughters in law Carmen and Deborah, grandchildren Nick, Matt, Max, Elizabeth, Ivette, Shannon, Marcelo, great grandchildren Aiden and Amelia and many wonderful friends in Princeton and throughout the world.
A memorial service will be officiated by Father Volodymyr Chaikivsky on Saturday, September 27. 2025 at 2pm at the Mather Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave, Princeton, New Jersey.
A visitation will be held Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 11am to 1pm at the funeral home.
