Patricia Young

Patricia Mary Young, lovingly known as Patti, Snooks, Mom, Grandma, Grammie, and Miss Patti, passed away peacefully at her home in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, on September 14, 2025, at the age of 78. Surrounded by her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren, she left this world wrapped in the love she so freely gave throughout her life.

Born on May 16, 1947, in Menomonee, Michigan, to Alred and Eunice (Bassine) Simono, Patti grew up in Coleman, Wisconsin, in a lively home filled with love, laughter, and resilience—qualities that shaped the remarkable woman we all knew.

She married the love of her life, Keith Garner Young, and together they built a life full of adventure, devotion, and unwavering partnership. Their love was the kind that inspired others—steadfast, joyful, and deep—carrying them through every twist, turn, blessing, and surprise life brought their way.

Patti was a woman of many talents. She began her career in cosmetology, but her heart found its true calling in caring for and teaching children. Whether raising her own children, running her home daycare, working with Head Start, or spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Patti poured love, creativity, and wisdom into every child she met. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives of children she helped to raise.

She was also a culinary artist, known for crafting gourmet meals and festive feasts with ease. Her table was always a gathering place for family and friends who became family. Her cookies, holiday spreads, and ability to turn simple ingredients into magic will never be forgotten.

Patti found joy in life’s simple pleasures: cuddling grandchildren and Golden Retrievers, wandering wooded paths, chasing waterfalls, and soaking up the sun in beach towns like Dauphin Island and Daytona Beach. She loved motorcycle trips, cheering on Wisconsin sports teams, and sharing laughter and stories with those she loved. Her strength, warmth, and humor were the heartbeat of every gathering.

A woman of deep faith, Patti was raised Catholic and remained prayerful throughout her life—a living example of compassion, peace, and grace.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Keith; her children, Tina (James) Schuelke and Tyler (Amanda) Young; her grandchildren, Lindsay, Alan, Nathan, Andrew, Trevor (Miranda), Bryce, Connor, Aryssa, Austin, and Liam; and her great-grandchildren, Lydia, Azalea, and Braxton. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Lee Hein, Carla Routhiaux, Lou Swenty, and Simone (Glenn) Woulf along with every niece, nephew, cousin and friend that comprises our large and tight-knit family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard “Dick” Simono; her sister Marie Johnson, sister-in-law Jackie Simono; and brothers-in-law Gary Routhiaux and Arnold Swenty.

Patti’s legacy is one of love—fierce, generous, and enduring. She taught us how to live with joy, fight with grace, and love without limits. Her spirit will live on in every story told, every recipe shared, and every prayer whispered.

To honor Patti’s legacy of love and kindness, the family asks that memorial gifts be made out to the Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. This cause is close to our hearts and urgently needed in our communities. Your support will help provide critical services, safety, and hope for those facing domestic violence and sexual assault.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Senior Hearts Home Care, and especially to Samantha, for the compassionate and loving care provided to Patti, Keith, and our family during this time of transition. Your kindness and support brought comfort and peace when it was needed most.

Visitation for Patti will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 12:00 PM, all at the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Father Chris Kemp will be officiating.  Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for a luncheon at the Hodag Banquet Center to continue celebrating Patti’s beautiful life.
