Pat was born on September 20, 1928, in Welcome, MN to Dr. Maclaren Eugene Love and Helen Loretta Welch Love.
She married Ray Elmer Wendt on December 5, 1953, in Preston, MN. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2007.
Survivors include her son-in-law, John “Andy” McAfee (Pamela), of Hannibal, MO; two granddaughters, Amanda Whittaker (Delmar) of Hannibal, MO, and Megan Bramblett (Cody) of Hannibal, MO; and eight great grandchildren, Hailey Whittaker, Gracey Whittaker, Trey Whittaker, Tiffany Whittaker, Tanner Whittaker, Autumn Whittaker, Brody Bramblett, and Braden Bramblett.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Barbara R. McAfee, Margaret “Peggy” Wendt.
Pat was the Salutatorian of the graduating Class of 1946 at Preston Minnesota High School. After high school, she attended Hamlin University in St. Paul, MN.
Professionally, Pat worked at Mayo Clinic for two years followed by St. Mary’s Hospital for eight years. She later worked as a bookkeeper at the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Hannibal, MO and prepared taxes for Ann’s Tax Service of Hannibal, MO.
With a passion for the simple pleasures in life, Pat found great joy in playing solitaire and doing word search puzzles. Pat was a remarkably talented seamstress. Her sewing was not just a hobby but an art form, through which she expressed her creativity and meticulous attention to detail. Pat looked forward to her annual trips to New Orleans where she explored culture, cuisine, and the vibrant life of a city she held dear. An avid reader, Pat was often found with a biography or a murder mystery book in hand, immersing herself in the lives and intrigues of others. Her fascination with the natural world and history was reflected in her love for Animal Planet and the History Channel. Pat and her husband, Ray were also highly active with the Hannibal American Legion and the Hannibal Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations. Remarkably, Pat navigated life’s journey without ever having a driver’s license. Above all, Pat treasured the moments spent with her family and will be deeply missed.
While being a resident, Pat enjoyed sharing time with other residents and caregivers at Luther Manor Nursing Home.
Pat was Christian by faith.
