Oliver Edward Wright, 83, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday afternoon, August 28, 2025 at home with his family at bedside. He was born on April 9, 1942 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to the late Audie P. and Eva Lucille (Peters) Wright.

Ed honorably served his country in the Navy. After serving in the Navy, Ed worked as a Seed Consultant and a truck driver to name a few of his careers. He was a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge, #2555 in Mount Vernon and the Fraternal Order of Elks, #140 in Mount Vernon. Ed was an avid sports fan, an avid reader of Louis L’Amour’s westerns, he loved to travel, he loved nature, he enjoyed playing golf, but most of all he loved watching his grandkids in their activities.

Ed is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Joan Rhoads; children, Craig (Nichole) Wright of Centerton, Arkansas, Jason (Lori) Hendrickson of Pensacola, Florida, Brandi (Dustin) Whitesel of Centerburg, Ohio and Melanie (Sean) McSeveney of London, Ohio; grandchildren, Cody, Emilee, Megan, Austin, Levi, Brooke, Paige, Chloe and Owen; 8 great grandchildren; and a sister, Brenda (Glenn) Steele of Centerburg, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Wright; and the mother of his children, Margaret McDonald.

The family will host a celebration of life on Sunday, August 31, 2025 from 1-4 p.m. at the Colonial City Moose Lodge, #2555, 417 West High St., Mount Vernon. Military Honors will be provided by the Navy’s Mid-Atlantic Region Funeral Detail and will begin at 2 p.m.
