Oliver Wadsworth, Jr.

Oliver F. Wadsworth, Jr. passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025 at the age of 91 surrounded by loved ones. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen G. Wadsworth and his daughter, Sarah G. Wadsworth. He was survived by three of his children, Oliver, Eliza and John and his three grandchildren, Jordan, Cole and Murphy.

Oliver grew up in New York City before moving to the Boston area. He graduated from Milton Academy and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from Harvard University in 1955. Eventually, he learned to speak fluent French. His intelligence and educational background made most conversations with him informative and entertaining. His passion for history, storytelling and his remarkable ability to recall dates and details were extraordinary.

He served his country with pride as an Infantry Lieutenant at Fort Bliss, Texas after college. He embodied the discipline, structure, and purpose that he found in the service. That discipline showed up in every aspect of his daily routine. For his 40 year investment management career, he employed a very specific process of picking good long-term investments. While at home being chef at dinner time, he had a very specific ritual on how to light the Weber Grill to produce Prides Crossings’ finest barbecue!

Oliver had an incredible run! Yes, Oliver was an accomplished distance runner and also known for his skills as a sailor, ornithologist and skier. A man who rarely missed a morning walk or a good excuse to sit in the sun with his French book, Oliver believed in the power of routine, three square meals a day and regular exercise. As a lifelong traveler with a particular love for France, Oliver visited Europe often. He even returned to France at the age of 90 for what some called an “ill advised“ trip, but true to form he made it home with stories to tell and a sparkle on his eye.

As a loving husband, devoted father, caring grandfather, dog owner, student, investor, philanthropist and veteran, he shared in many accomplishments along the way. His marriage to Ellen for 61 years was his most wonderful accomplishment.

Funeral services for Oliver will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St. John’s Church in Beverly Farms, MA, take a walk, tell a good story or raise a glass of red wine in his memory. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly. Information, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.
