Niki Safakas passed away on November 2, 2025. She was 84 years old.
Born in the village of Atheras on the Greek island of Kefalonia. She was the beloved wife of Vasilios; Cherished mother of Chris (Lisa) and John (Nicoleta); Caring grandmother of Niki, Emily, Christina, Sophia, and Vasilios; Adored sister of Marianthi (the late Zacharias), the late Yiannis, George (Eugenia), Spiro (Anna), the late Gerasimos (Eleftheria), the late Alexandra (Vasilios), and the late Vaggelis; Fond aunt and dear friend to all who knew her.
Niki was a kind and generous soul who always looked out for others, even in her final days. A dedicated wife to her husband for over 59 years, she was the heart of her family, a devoted mother who raised her children and grandchildren with unconditional love. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting aroma of her delicious home cooked meals. Niki’s legacy of love, kindness, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was a woman of remarkable strength who fought hard for many years guided by her deep faith. A true angel who walked this Earth and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4, from 9AM until time of service, 10AM, at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 S. Roselle Rd., Palatine. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home.
