The 53-foot red fir “Silver Belle” selected as the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, was harvested Friday from the Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and will make its first public stop at the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The tree was blessed by the Washoe (Wasisiw) Tribe of Nevada and California moments before the harvest. A crane then hoisted Silver Belle onto a long-haul trailer for transport.

Silver Belle will then travel through the Silver State, starting with the Nevada Day Parade, with a number of stops before heading to Washington, D.C. where the tree will serve as the 2025 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. This was the first time in the program’s history that a Christmas tree was picked from the Carson Ranger District Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

A series of special events has been planned to celebrate the tree during its cross-country journey, starting with a promenade down main street during Saturday’s Nevada Day Parade in Carson City.

The main event — the Nevada Day Parade — will feature this year’s Grand Marshal Bob Tallman and the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Silver Belle. They will step off promptly at 10 a.m. through downtown Carson City.

Beginning early this summer, children and adults alike have been prepping ornaments to send along with Silver Belle to the West Lawn.

In total, 10,000 ornaments have been created and donated by Nevadans for the “People’s Tree,” and in Carson City, ornament-making events have been held at the Nevada State Museum, within Carson City schools, through Carson City Parks and Recreation, and more.

Ornament themes ranged from “Home Means Nevada,” Nevada traditions, iconic landscapes, plants and animals, as well as Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl.

The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree initiative began in 1964, in which one of America’s 154 national forests provides a tree to serve as the nation’s Christmas Tree. The project is made possible with support from partners including nonprofits Society of American Foresters and Sierra Forever, along with contributions from companies and volunteers across America.

A number of festivities are planned in communities along the route, and well-wishers can view and take pictures with the tree, sign the banner, buy official U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree merchandise, and learn more about Nevada’s national forest as we celebrate the “Spirit of the Silver State.”

All events are free and open to the public.

Be sure to keep an eye out for our tree, and give it a send off it deserves as it makes its way east to represent the Silver State this holiday season!
