Middle school volleyball in Carson City leapt to new heights this year and bumped, set and spiked its way to tournament victories and end-of-season celebrations.

Acing the competition: The Carson Middle School seventh grade volleyball team aced the Tah-Neva end-of-season tournament with a first-place finish, concluding the regular league season with 10 wins and 1 loss. They won all six out-of-league scrimmages and remained undefeated at the tournament championship. Coached by Sara Vaccaro, the seventh grade team relied on assistant coaching from Carson High School students and volleyball athletes Madison Vaccaro and Khloe Vaccaro.

A bronze-worthy performance: The Carson Middle School eighth grade team also had a fantastic season, placing third at the Tah-Neva Tournament. They were coached by Kaitlyn Gentry with assistance from Carson High students and volleyball athletes Nickolas Cotsonis, Julie Salanoa and Geni Van Sickle.

Staff vs. Students: Across town at Eagle Valley Middle School, employees faced off against their eighth grade volleyball team during the annual Staff vs. Student volleyball game. This year marked the 19th year of the fun, end-of-season celebration where all kinds of employees, including teachers, cooks, paraprofessionals, admin and even sheriff resource officers teamed up to challenge the eighth grade team.

The tradition provides a great opportunity for students and teachers to build relationships outside of the classroom and interact with each other in a different setting. The game was watched by the student body as eagle valley students cheered for both staff and players alike. This year’s event resulted in a staff victory, but next year’s group is promising a student comeback. Eagle Valley Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team was coached by Brittany Witter.
