Michael Cano, Sr.

Michael Cano Sr., 76, of Elizabeth, CO entered into eternal sleep April 12, 2025, at the Silver Heights Nursing Facility. He was born on July 10, 1948, to Maria Villalobos Cano and Antonio Diaz Cano in Chihuahua City, Mexico. Michael (Mike) was the first graduating class from Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, NM. Following high school, he joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1969. He married Sandra A. Telles and had two sons, Michael Jr. and Steven. He worked at Fort Bliss, TX Civilian Service Department for many years.

Mike was an avid coin collector and a huge Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls fan. His great passion was finding and restoring classic cars. He spent many hours with his sons sharing his love of mechanics and restoration knowledge. He was also an exceptional grill master and enjoyed many a Sunday cookout, passing on his grilling techniques and secrets to his sons (which included always having a beer in your hand). He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and enjoyed family camping trips as well as exploring the larger cities of America.

Mike was defined by his gentle temperament, soft voice and loving hugs. Mike always had a smile and hearty laugh that would brighten any room. He was an adoring father who loved and cherished his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren until his last days.

He is survived by his children, Michael Cano Jr, Steven Cano and is grandchildren Tristan Michael, Isbella Lynn, Andrew Joseph, Isabella Nevaeh, Lorenzo Jose, Angelo Pierce, Emilio Stone, and his great grandchildren, Autumn and Zaedyn.

He was preceded in death by his former wife Sandra A. Oliva, and parents Maria and Antonio Cano.

At his request, Mike will be cremated and ashes interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO with full military honors on April 24, 2025, at 11:30 am.
