Melanie Johnson

Melanie “Jane” Johnson, 75, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, with her daughters by her side.

Jane was born on June 17, 1950, in Bradenton, FL. She is preceded in death by her mother Gladys Nesbitt (Brown), father Leonard Linzy, brothers Martin, Joe, Jimmy, and Johnny Linzy, and her faithful companion of 15 years Duke. She is survived by her stepfather Danny Nesbitt.

Jane is survived by her daughters Melanie Harvey (Joe) and Michelle Hodges (Glenn); seven grandchildren, Amber, Caitlin (Jake), Morgann (Aboud), Austyn (Dusty), Colson, Ashton, and Aidan; seven great-grandchildren, Camden, Saed, Landry, Wrenley, Owen, Miller, Jensen, and another great-grandchild on the way; seven nieces and nephews, Kimberly, Benny, Keith, Brandy, Kristie, Tereasa, and Januari; as well as many great- and great-great nieces and nephews — and her beloved dachshund, Daisy Mae.

Jane’s creativity was stitched into every corner of her life. With a needle, hook, or thread in hand, she poured love into each piece she made — from crocheted newborn outfits and blankets to whimsical animals and creatures crafted for every great-grandchild she welcomed into the world. Easter mornings brought quilted bunnies, little chicks, and dinosaurs, while Christmas meant personalized handmade treasures for every baby in the family. Her hands were never still, and her gifts will be cherished for generations.

Her heart was as warm as the sandy beaches she loved to bask on. Born by the water, she carried the ocean in her soul. Some of her happiest moments were celebrating Mother’s Day at the beach with her daughters and their growing families — a tradition filled with laughter, sunshine, and salty breezes.

Jane had a lifelong love for Elvis Presley, a talent for bringing her creative visions to life, and even once danced as an avid belly dancer. She adored dachshunds, especially her faithful companion Daisy Mae, and her joy, humor, and creative spirit touched everyone who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jane on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Fort Braden Community Center, 16387 Blountstown Highway, Tallahassee, FL 32310 from 5:30–7:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jane’s name to Champs Chance.
