With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of McEllis Burnett, lovingly known as “Macky” or “Mack,” who departed this life on April 16, 2025, at the age of 42.

Born on November 4, 1982, in Gary, Indiana, Mack was a devoted husband, a beloved brother and uncle, and a loyal friend to many. He had an incredible gift for art and was known for his talent and creativity as an amazing artist. His passion extended to sports—he was a die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Bucks, cheering on his teams with unmatched spirit.

He is preceded in death by his mother Brenda Burnett, father Harvey Harrington, grandmother Sarah Brown, cousin and a host of other cherished family members and friends.

Macky is survived by his loving wife, Shanika Burnett; siblings LaDonna Burnett (Thomas Kearney), Jacob Burnett (DeeDee Johnson), and Harlan Burnett (Julie Hale); mother-in-law Diane Anderson; father-in-law Anthony Washington (Doris Washington); and godmother DeSearean Smith (Kevin Rice). He will also be remembered fondly by a whole host of family members, nieces,nephews, extended family members and friends who cherished his vibrant personality and kind heart.

A celebration of Mack’s life will be held at Faith Christian Center, where he and his wife Shanika were faithful and devoted members.

Though our hearts ache with grief, we take comfort in knowing that Mack’s love, laughter, and artistic spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
