Matthew Hudec
- June 26, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Matthew Fredric Hudec, age 50, of St. Croix Falls, WI, on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Matt was born on April 8, 1975 in Chisago Lake Township, Minnesota. He grew up in Marine on St. Croix and attended Marine Elementary, Stillwater Junior High and Stillwater Senior High schools, graduating with the class of 1993. He furthered his education at St. Cloud State, Minnesota North College Vermillion Campus, and Dunwoody College of Technology.
He enjoyed working as a machinist at St Croix Forge Inc – Mustad USA in Forest Lake. He took great pleasure in building things, collecting antiques and was a keeper of family heirlooms. Matt married the love of his life, Van Hudec, in 2018. He had a great love for his family and friends.
Matt was a friend to all he met. Willing to help anyone in need. His carefree laugh will always be remembered. His smile lit up a room and he always made everyone feel included and seen. He led from the heart, with kindness and generosity. Matt’s easy and free spirit will be greatly missed.
Matt is survived by his wife Van Hudec; parents, Mary Spencer and Robert Hudec; siblings, Christine (Lon) LeClair, Michael Hudec, Anne (David) Voight; many nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his stepfather, David Spencer.
Visitation will take place Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church (611 Third Street South, Stillwater, MN), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon and time for sharing stories will follow the Mass.
