Matilda Hamill

Matilda Hazel Hamill, beloved wife of Samuel Hamill passed away peacefully at home in Hyde Park on May 15, 2025 at the age of 88. Born on July 24, 1936 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Tillie was the daughter of Herman and Dorothy Betz.
She was a 1954 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School where she was a Varsity cheerleader and participated in various other sports.
On June 3, 1956 at the First Congregational Church in Poughkeepsie, NY she married the love of her life, Samuel Hamill. Together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories for 68 years. Blessed with three children; Brian (Susan) Hamill, Sharon (Robert) Foster, Donna (William) Ferrante. In addition, she had 4 cherished grandchildren: Melissa (Ryan) Whelchel, Robert (Brianna) Foster, Craig Ferrante and Alexis Ferrante. Tillie had 30 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews.
She brought joy and laughter to every occasion, large or small. Whether at family gatherings, celebrations, or life’s everyday moments, her fun loving spirit and infectious enthusiasm were always present.
Tillie had a long career in banking with Dutchess Bank and Riverside Bank, retiring in1997. Achieving a lifelong dream of moving to the Carolinas, they lived and loved there for more than 20 years. Tillie enjoyed her family, friends, traveling and had a passion for reading – many times staying up until the wee hours to finish a good book.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hudson Valley Hospice, especially the Home Health aides, nurses, physical therapist, music therapist, social worker, and chaplain.
Calling hours to honor and celebrate Tillie’s life will be held at William G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 from 1PM-3PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice in memory of our mother.
