MaryAnn “Nanny” DeVito, 86, of County Route 17, Russell died peacefully at her home while under the loving care of her family on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hermon Fire Department.
Burial will be held privately in the DeVito Family Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Agarwal Renal Center in Ogdensburg or to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
MaryAnn was born a daughter to the late Louellen Theodore and Mary Elizabeth (Bennett) Jason in Brooklyn, NY on July 25, 1938. She was raised on Long Island and graduated from an all-girls school run by Nuns in the Hamlet of Syosset. She was married to Joseph Carl DeVito, Sr. in 1958. The family relocated to the North Country. The marriage ended however they remained close friends. “Big Joe” died March 30, 2016.
MaryAnn worked as a psych nurse for a number of years, most recently at a home on Grant Street in Potsdam.
Surviving are her four sons: Joe. Jr. (Trish) DeVito of Russell, Rick (Kim) DeVito of Rossie, , David (Karen) DeVito of Russell and Carl DeVito of Russell; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers Teddy and Terry; a granddaughter Telisa DeVito; great-grandson James; and her best friends Carmen Garcia and Rosemarie Oelschlager.
MaryAnn enjoyed traveling, tending to her flower gardens, re-decorating her house, even painting the exterior a number of times. She also loved shopping for Tiffany lamps, coats and shoes.
Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton has been entrusted with “Nanny’s” care and arrangements.
