Mary Lou (Rhodes) Brandt, 89, of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Mary was born on September 12, 1935 in Brunswick, MO, the daughter of Freddie and Lucille (Gottschalk) Rhodes. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Hobert Homan, and her beloved grandparents, Roy and Frona Mae Rhodes. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1954. She was married to John W. Brandt from 1955 to 1985 and had one son, Rodney, in 1965.

Mary worked many different jobs throughout her life but is best known for managing the El-Jon Movie Theater in Brunswick, MO for many years and serving as the city clerk and the city/township tax collector for Brunswick for over 35 years.

Mary enjoyed traveling around the country in her younger years with her parents and son making many wonderful memories. On one trip to California in 1969, she even got to meet and talk to Elvis Presley. Mary enjoyed growing up with all of her classmates and visiting with them through the years. She also enjoyed visiting with all of the moviegoers and taxpayers that came to see her every year, but her greatest joy in life was raising and caring for her son, Rodney.

Mary was a lifelong member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. She is survived by one son, Rod Brandt, of Brunswick, MO and was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Lucille.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
