Mary D’Mello

Mary J. D’Mello, age 90, of Cary and formerly of Palatine, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 5, 2025. Loving wife of the late Jeronimo D’Mello; beloved mother of Ursula (Wilfred) Fernandes, the late Norma (the late Anthony) Dsouza, Doris (Gabriel) Dsouza, Esther (Domingo) Dsouza, Paul (Sheila) D’Mello, Melba (Joseph) Dsouza, Fredy D’Mello, James (Ann) D’Mello. Devoted grandma of Mabel (Darrel) Smith and Anita (Eddie) Hernandez; Ruffina (Francisco) Lobo and Harold (Joaquina) Dsouza; Andrew Dsouza; Dinazia (Steven) Yarger and Melvin (Janette) Dsouza; Steffi (Achilleus) Fernandes and Alice (Bernard) Mascarenhas; Jill (Ivan) Coutinho and Melissa (Valerian) Colaco; Rhea and Faith D’Mello. Cherished great grandma of Nicholas, Jonathan, and Samantha Smith; Steve and Adrian Lobo; Shane Dsouza; Nina and Hannah Hernandez; Aiden, Ash, and Axel Yarger; Arthur Fernandes; Giselle and Lanae Coutinho; Lion Colaco. Dear sister of the late Joseph Gonsalves, the late Elar Gonsalves, the late Autilda D’Mello, Catherine Santamaria, Ida Gonsalves, Olivia Gonsalves, the late Agnel Gonsalves, Cyril Gonsalves, and Oscar Gonsalves. A fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Mary was a caring nurse and housewife who raised eight kids. She will be remembered as the best cook. She loved sewing, reading, gardening and music. She was always well-dressed and elegant. Mary lived a simple life and remained calm in any situation. Mary was also a devout and proud catholic.

Visitation Wednesday, August 6th from 3-8 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home 185 E. Northwest Hwy. Palatine, IL. Funeral Thursday August 7th, 9:15 AM from the funeral home for 9:30 AM Mass at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Interment to follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. Info 847-359-8020.
