Marlene Grace Nelson was born on March 20, 1935, in Stuart, Iowa, to Eugene B. Nelson and Luella Grace. She passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, at The Springs at St. Andrews.
Marlene graduated from high school and married William R. Nelson of Menlo, Iowa, on March 24, 1954. Together, they raised three children: Russell William, Pamela Jo, and Laurie Ann. In 1964, shortly after Laurie was born, the family relocated to Aurora, Colorado, where Marlene would spend the majority of her life.
Marlene had a passion for working with older adults. She began her career in sales and marketing at Canterbury Gardens and later served as an administrator at an assisted living community in Brighton, Colorado. Earlier in her life, she worked as a bank teller and also enjoyed selling Mary Kay cosmetics.
In retirement, Marlene and her husband, Bill, found joy in quilting together. She cherished time with her granddaughters, teaching them the art of sewing and quilting. Marlene also loved cooking and passed along her skills in the kitchen to her daughters. When she wasn’t cooking or quilting, you could often find her playing golf or attending aqua aerobics at the pool.
Marlene was known for her straightforward and honest communication. She had a keen wit, a great sense of humor, and especially loved joking around with her son-in-law, Michael—she could “dish it out just as well as she could take it.” She was also a gifted writer and storyteller.
Above all, Marlene was devoted to her family. She was a constant source of support, always ready to help when needed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and is survived by her children Russ (Terri), Pam, and Laurie (Mike); her sister Alberta Nelson; her grandchildren Jacquelyn Romero (Chad); Stefanie Eisaman (Alex); Kyla Helmrath and her great-grandchildren Jaxon Romero, and Preslei Eisaman and Stanlei Eisaman.
Marlene’s presence, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed. Her family is forever grateful for the care, strength, and joy she brought into their lives.
